19 October 2007 will be Back to Scouting night for both Scouts and their Parents of Pack 1576. All Cub Scouts should bring be ready with the following:
- Uniform
- Handbook
- Completion of How to Protect Your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent's Guide
- Notepad
- Pen
- Handbag/backpack
- Readiness to have fun and learn.
Please read on for more detailed information.
- Wearing their Uniform. Uniform can be obtained by visiting:
Rider's Hobby Shop
21800 Towncenter Plz # 236
Sterling, VA 20164
(703) 430-2202
An excellent resource regarding the wear of the uniform can be found at The Virtual Cub Scout Uniforming Guide.
- Their Cub Scout Handbook. This can be obtained at the Rider's Hobby Shop as well. This book should accompany them to all Scouting activities. It is their guide and means of recording their progress. Every program has their own specific handbook. For example, if your son is in the Wolves program, be sure to pick up a Wolf Handbook.
- Completion of How to Protect your Children From Child Abuse: A Parent's Guide which is an inset in the Handbook. Returning Scouts must complete this again. Repetition of this training is key to prevention. Additionally, as children get older, their understanding of the issue expands and you will be able to share more and more with them.
- Notepad - Often the Scouts will need to record information as part of an activity or project they are working on. We recommend that this be kept in one notepad/composition book to accompany them during all Scouting activities.
- Pen - We do write things down all the time and often it might be hard to find a writing implement. Having one with them will ensure they write everything down they need to.
- A handbag or backpack, some kind of bag to keep their Scouting materials in is a good idea. It will help prevent loss of uniform parts, badges, papers, etc during their Scouting adventures.
- Last but not least, they need to be ready to have fun and learn. Scouting is a great adventure but if you are not ready for it, you will not enjoy it. If there are any issues or concerns that you might have, please feel free to let us know at any time so that we can address them. If there is anything wrong that we should be aware of, do let us know. We aren't counselors, but making us aware of possible sensitive situations will help us better prepare the adult volunteers, the other Scouts, and most importantly, your child for a better Scouting experience.
