What is Blue And Gold Banquet?

Most Cub Scouts celebrate Scouting Anniversary Week with a celebration called the Blue and Gold Banquet. In nearly all packs, the annual Blue and Gold Banquet, which is often the pack meeting for February, is the highlight of the year. It brings families together for an evening of fun and inspiration.

Most Cub Scouts celebrate Scouting Anniversary Week with a celebration called the blue and gold banquet. In nearly all packs, the annual blue and gold banquet, which is often the pack meeting for February, is the highlight of the year. It brings families together for an evening of fun and inspiration.

The purpose of the blue and gold banquet is to celebrate the pack's anniversary, recognize pack leaders and other adults who have been instrumental in the pack's success, and inspire the leaders, Scouts, and parents. Packs often like to invite former members and other Scouting or community leaders to take part in the annual blue and gold banquet.

The banquet program must appeal to boys as well as adults. The evening can be conducted as a regular pack meeting (with songs, skits, stunts, and awards), or it can be something different and a little more special. Your pack may choose to bring in outside entertainment, such as a magician or storyteller, or have a video or slide presentation of the activities the pack participated in over the previous year. Choose a master of ceremonies who will keep the evening moving and enjoyable for all.

Careful planning is necessary for the banquet to be successful. Most packs begin planning at least two months in advance. The pack committee should recruit a banquet chair, who in turn may select others to carry out the responsibilities of the program, such as making physical arrangements, handling invitations, choosing a theme, etc. Try to involve as many people as possible, but avoid giving den leaders too many additional responsibilities because it may distract them from their duties to their dens.

reason will be dropped out of the program.

* Anyone who is late for pickup 3 timed will be dropped out of the program.

Pack 1576 Hajj Simulation and Potluck Event

As part of duty to God and to keep in line with the Hijri Calendar, the Cub Scouts will be performing a simulation a simulated Hajj at our Monthly Pack Meeting, 22 November 2009.

All Cub Scouts should wear Ihram on top of their Unifrom.
Please be sure to arrive by 6:00 PM. It is important that you arrive promptly so that we are able to start the actual Hajj simulation on time and complete the program before Salat ul-Isha, inshaAllah.

The food will be placed in one corner of the main hall. We will eat after we complete Salat ul-Isha and the Hajj.

Here is the agenda for the actual Hajj simulation:

Everyone assembles in Ihram in the main hall.
An introduction will be given promptly at 6:30 PM.
Tawaf will begin inshaAllah with the Tigers starting the circuit of the stations, followed by the Wolves, Bears, Webelos, and Girl Scouts.
A leader and/or parent will stay with each station while the other leader of the den will go with the Scouts from station to station for crowd control purposes..
- The leader will lead the Scouts in learning the story/importance of each station, reciting dua, and performing the actions of the assigned station.

A Great Eagle Scout Project

Boy Scout turns 'mud pit' into a $60K playground

KRASNOYARSK, Russia (CNN) -- "It kept you alive," a tearful Dwight Griffith told his adopted son as the two looked at an infant incubator during a tour of the Russian hospital where he was born.

Alex Griffith, 16, raised more than $60,000 for a new playground at the Russian hospital where he was born.

More than a decade after L.S. Berzon City Clinical Hospital No. 20 cared for him, 16-year-old Alex Griffith wanted to show his gratitude.

"Russia is part of me and this hospital is part of me. They gave me life, so I [wanted] to give back to them, to give them a fun place to play," said Alex, who lives in Forest Hill, Maryland.

As part of a Boy Scout project, Alex donated hundreds of hours and raised tens of thousands of dollars to build a new playground for the hospital.

Alex -- originally named Sergey -- was abandoned by his parents shortly after he was born at the hospital in the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk. He weighed less than 2 pounds and doctors said he had a mild case of cerebral palsy.

His condition improved slightly over the next 11 months, when Dwight and Jenny Griffith adopted him.

Volunteer staff for Centennial Camporee needed

Asalamu alaykum!

I’m appealing to all of you as dedicated volunteers to help Council staff the Centennial

Camporee being held at Goshen May 28 – 31.

There are lots of fun activities planned for Tigers, Wolf, Bear and Webelos and

we are going to need lots of help.

Let me know if you would like to join us for the weekend or if you think anyone

from our pack would be interested in helping.

Activities planned for the Centennial Camporee are:

* Derby area (derbies done large with cubs as the pinewood derby car, rockets, boats , etc.)

* Cub Rank Pavilions with displays and crafts

* Obstacle Course

* Putt Putt mini golf

* Old West Corral (straight out of the How To Book)

* Indian Lore with crafts

* Scavenger Hike

* BB range

* Archery range

*Action Archery range

* Sling Shot range

We are actively recruiting staff for all of the above areas.

Unfortunately, I don't have any information on incentives (if any) to be offered to

volunteers or their children.

Please contact me if you are interested in being staff for this event. If you know anyone

who would be a good fit for any of the above areas please send me their name and contact

Ramadan is Here .......ADAMS Souts Iftar Dinner.

This is a potluck iftar, with each different group assigned to bring something.

CUB SCOUTS are assigned to bring Pizza. We are ordering pizza collectivelly to get a better deal and less work for everyone, so each Cub Scout family should bring $10 rather than pizza.

Please bring prayer rugs and/or sheets/blankets (bring extras)

When: Saturday, Aug 29, 2009 from 6PM-9PM

Den Leaders, please ensure that one family from each den comes early to help set up, and one family can stay to help clean up (we need to be completely cleaned up and out of there by 9:30).

Space: A Cub Scout Universe!

Fourteen members of ADAMS Cub Scout Pack #1576 attended the annual Goose Creek District Day Camp last week at the Loudoun County Fairgrounds. This year's theme, "Space: A Cub Scout Universe" was well-integrated into the special activities offered by the five-day camp.

The boys (and girls!) were busy every day with science, crafts, frisbee golf, ultimate frisbee, archery, bb guns, and marbles. Science activities included bottle rockets, mentos & soda fountains, and painting models of the planets. At the crafts station, campers assembled and launched balsa airplanes and laced their very own leather wallets that will serve them for years to come. The archery and bb guns stations were the most popular throughout camp, as many campers qualified to receive special patches and awards for their marksmanship.

Altogether there were over 200 campers from all over Loudoun County. Pack #1576 campers were accompanied by three dedicated mothers who made sure the pack got to their activities on time all day, had enough to drink in the hot sun, and applied enough sunscreen throughout the day. Luckily, the weather cooperated all week, with highs in the mid 80s everyday. Couple that with the beautiful Loudoun County countryside, and the setting was perfect.

Great Falls Hike

New Wolf Den Great Falls Hike

This Saturday 7/11 is our hike in Great Falls park, it will be alot of fun and a great chance for us to get together.

Anyone scouts are welcome if you would like to attend.

We will start the hike at 10:30 AM

Meet:
We will meet in front of the concessions stand at the Vistor Center.

2009 Goose Creek District Rocket Derby

It's Rocket Derby time!

June 6th is the annual Goose Creek District Soda Pop Bottle Rocket Derby at Claude Moore Training Facility (not to be confused with Claude Moore Park). This is a great opportunity to have some fun and learn about Newton's Three Laws.

Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it.
The relationship between an object's mass m, its acceleration a, and the applied force F is F = ma. Acceleration and force are vectors (as indicated by their symbols being displayed in slant bold font); in this law the direction of the force vector is the same as the direction of the acceleration vector.
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Putting Newton's Laws of Motion Together

An unbalanced force must be exerted for a rocket to lift off from a launch pad or for a craft in space to change speed or direction (First Law). The amount of thrust (force) produced by a rocket engine will be determined by the rate at which the mass of the rocket fuel burns and the speed of the gas escaping the rocket (Second Law). The reaction, or motion, of the rocket is equal to and in the opposite direction of the action, or thrust, from the engine (Third Law).

A rocket derby is a great summertime Pack activity that a scout can do with the whole family. It requires less preparation and setup than the propeller driven space derby kits. A rocket derby uses water rockets that are propelled with water and air pressure. The rockets are simple enough to assemble that Tiger Cubs and siblings age 4 and older can also participate. The scouts and parents get a great thrill at seeing their rockets fly skyward. The rockets can fly up to 50-60 feet in the air.
